Article Marketing and Duplicate Content - Is Mass Submission a Killer?

In the past, submitting your articles to as many article directories as possible was a very effective technique. The search engine algorithms were not nearly as complex as they are today and the multiple links were very valuable.

Today, mass article submission is not nearly effective. As a matter of fact, the search engines look at it as a form of spam. SEs like to see unique, quality content and the same article appearing on hundreds of sites is not unique.

Is mass article submission duplicate content? Actually in Googles eyes, it is not. But, that does not mean it is OK to mass submit and this is why. Google defines duplicate content as the same exact content on the same site. When they come across this there is no penalty, they will just index one of the pages and leave the other out of their index. Since articles are submitted to multiple websites and each page has a different style and layout, it is not duplicate content and many of the pages will get indexed.

So why not mass submit? Although many of your articles will get indexed, they will not receive as much weight in the SEs as they would if they were only submitted to a few authority sites. Is it possible for an article to rank high for a long tail keyword after being mass submitted? Absolutely but that same article would have ranked even higher if it were only submitted to the top few sites.

To sum it all up, do not mass submit. But, do not limit your submission to the top few article directories. Find some good ezines in your niche and ask for inclusion. If they like your article they may include it and that has the potential of bringing in a blast of target visitors. It is also a good idea to seek out a few authority websites in your niche that are not necessarily article directories. If you can get your big competitors to publish your articles on their site you can brand your name and be known as an expert in your field.

There are many factors that must be calculated in order to conduct a successful article marketing campaign. Hopefully I have laid one rumor to rest and you can use this newly obtained information to help better serve your home business.

Article Marketing Mastery

If you are selling a product or a service online, article marketing can be one of the easiest and most cost effective ways to send traffic to your website. As well as driving people directly to your site, you will also use article marketing to boost your link popularity - a critical factor in search engine rankings.

The first step in mastering article marketing is writing good content. Even if you don't have experience writing articles, this is a skill you can develop over time. At the start, keep it as simple as possible and use short sentences. Try to be helpful and give advice in your article without overloading it with keywords.

Also, make sure you write an excellent headline. The more attention you can grab with your headline, the more times the article will be published. I've read that top copywriters spend more time developing a headline or title than actually writing the article itself.

Secondly, spend some time writing a good resource box that will encourage readers to click on the link to your website. Once readers navigate to your page, you can offer them your products or you can offer them something for free so long as they submit their email address.

Either way, you are onto a winner. You will either sell products or begin to develop a list of potential buyers who you can contact with news, helpful tips, and special offers.

Once you have written your article and resource box, you need to think about distributing your articles.

Article directories are probably the easiest way to get your work out in the public domain. There are hundreds of article directories out there, some general and some that publish articles on niche areas. Find the ones that you think will get your articles the most exposure. I like to make sure I submit to article directories with at least a PageRank of 3.

Submitting to article directories can be a time-consuming exercise. There are software packages that can make automatic submissions, but many directories have measures in place to block automatic submissions. Alternatively you could use an article submission service, but these can be expensive. It is probably best to choose a few directories that suit you and make the submissions yourself. Do a search for "article submission software" to find the lastest article submission software products.

You can also try contacting editors of e-zines in your field and ask them to consider accepting some of your work. Send a sample of your work.

As you submit more and more articles you should become more well known and you will build up trust among website publishers. Be patient, and your article marketing efforts will pay off...I guarantee it!

Making Sense of Marketing Models

Marketing can be bewildering for busy small business owners who wear many hats and are aiming to figure out the most effective marketing strategies while managing their day-to-day businesses. Daily we are bombarded with marketing messages from all directions-television, radio, SMS, internet and print media. The marketing messages may reach us via solicited or unsolicited (spam) channels.

Research on the internet reveals a multitude of marketing models and techniques, each claiming to be the best and most cost-effective one. There is Telemarketing - Bum Marketing - Niche Marketing -- Metaphor Marketing - Guerrilla Marketing - Ambush Marketing - Fusion Marketing and Alliance Marketing to mention a few. Not surprising, more and more people complain about having too much information and choices vs having too little. A working definition of the Marketing Models is provided at the end of this article.

How do you respond to this avalanche of information? Do you feel overwhelmed and do nothing? Or do file the information away for review when you have more time? Maybe that time never comes and you end up not making the decision that could support your business growth.

Marketing Models - What do they have in common?

In its essence marketing models are a contest for your attention or the attention of your potential clients! They simply can be divided into Permission Marketing and Interruption Marketing Models.

Internet marketing pioneer and founder of Permission Marketing, Seth Godin says, "Advertising just doesn't work as well as it used to - in part because there's so much of it, in part because people have learned to ignore it, in part because the rise of the Net means that companies can go beyond it...we are entering an era that's going to change the way almost everything is marketed to almost everybody." This was in 1999. And while marketing with the rise of the Net has changed, the philosophy of permission marketing is as relevant to small business owners today as it was then.

Mass marketing, based on the Interruption Model, has become less effective because there's too much going on in our lives for us to enjoy being interrupted anymore. Interruption Marketing, however, is still extremely effective when there is not an overflow of interruptions. No doubt, you have your own thoughts and feeling about having your favorite TV show interrupted several times by an advert or your family dinner by Telemarketing calls, or your email inbox overflowing with spam emails. Is it possible that your potential clients have similar thoughts and feelings about your marketing strategy?

The challenge for marketers, Godin argues, is to persuade consumers to volunteer attention - to "raise their hands -- to agree to learn more about a company and its products." This makes perfect sense. He calls the new model "Permission Marketing" because it is built around permission. Permission marketing, he claims, "turns strangers into friends and friends into loyal customers."

Readers' Digest use permission marketing by giving the consumer an opportunity to win prizes in their Sweepstakes in return for the permission to send marketing literature. Another example is your subscription to newsletters.

In the United Kingdom opt-in is required for email marketing, under The Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003. This came into force on the 11 December 2003.

Reflect and Act Marketing is a crucial aspect of your business success. If you are like most small business owners you will want to invest your marketing dollar wisely to maximize your marketing results. Permission Marketing is a powerful "be-in-touch, stay-in-touch" targeted relationship building strategy.

To get a better understanding of the effectiveness of your marketing strategies, I invite you to reflect on the following questions:

1. Am I maximizing my marketing opportunities?

2. Do my marketing efforts focus on the segment of the market that is likely to do business with me?

3. Are my marketing strategies based on the Permission Model or the Interruption Model?

4. How do potential clients perceive my marketing strategies? Do they welcome them? Do they create overwhelm?

5. How effective are my current marketing strategies?

6. What is the return on my marketing investment?

7. What is the most effective marketing strategy I can implement today?

To find out how consumers perceive your marketing strategies, I invite you to develop a five question questionnaire to conduct a mail or phone survey of 10-25 potential clients. Awareness is power when combined with effective action.

Marketing Models: Working Definitions

Alliance Marketing: "It's about developing a well-oiled strategy between companies who are doing business with the same prospects on a daily basis but are not competing with each other. It's a strategy that leverages each company's strengths and database for each other while yielding major results at the end of the day." - Matt Tommey

Ambush Marketing - "A deliberate attempt by a business or brand to associate itself with an event in order to gain some of the benefits associated with being an official sponsor without incurring the costs of sponsorship. - Blah La Word Press

Bum Marketing: Also known as article marketing.

Fusion Marketing: Is tying your marketing efforts in with the effort of others. It is a make-everybody-wealthy marketing tactic known in Japan and by guerrillas worldwide. It is also known as Collaborative Marketing. - Jay Conrad Levinson

Guerrilla Marketing: Is high impact low cost marketing.

Interruption Marketing: as the name indicates that each and every marketing strategy interrupts what potential customers are doing in order to get them to think about the marketing message. - Seth Godin

Metaphor Marketing: Is essentially Brand Marketing.

Niche Marketing: Is concentrating all marketing efforts on a small but specific and well defined segment of the population

Permission Marketing: As the name indicates, consumers need to grant you permission to send messages.

Telemarketing: Is marketing conducted via the medium of the telephone.

Article Writing Made Easy - How To Write Your Very First Internet Article!

The first article can be the hardest you ever write. Trust me, I have been there and done it. It can be quite scary as you stare at an empty white space on your computer, trying to come up with your first article. It can be boring, but with discipline, it becomes easy over time. Of course, you can always your articles, but having the ability to write articles is a skill that will hold you in good stead in your Internet business.

Thats why I have written this step-by-step formula to churning out your own profit-pulling articles in record time, day after day. Print it out so you can use it as a guide whenever you feel stuck in your article writing.

1) Find a topic. Every article consists of a topic that it discusses. Without a good topic, your article is dead in the water. This should be something you know a lot about or at least have an interest in.

2) Find articles on the topic. Search Google for articles that discuss the topic you want to write about. Take down the key points that each article talks about in a separate text document.

3) Write your introductory paragraph that explains what you are going to talk about in your article.

4) Write a longer body copy using the main points in your other text document. Write them in your own words and add a few other interesting points or stories of your own to make your article unique.

5) Conclude your article with one paragraph with a summary of what you just wrote about. This ties up the article, so to speak.

6) Make sure your website and biography is at the bottom of the article for free branding and free traffic.

There you have it, you have just written your first article to be published! Now go write some more!

Article Marketing - My Private SEO Experiment

In this article I would like to go over some interesting things that I discovered from search engine optimization using article marketing.

For the purpose of this experiment I set up two web sites. One is a blog and another a lead capture page with a blog as well in a directory on the domain.

Now what has really been interesting is the following. The first few months my sites had virtually no rankings on Google. After about five months I started to notice search engine traffic from Google. A few months later there was a lot more traffic.

Analyzing the links pointing towards my web site I discovered the following. I had a lot of links pointing from the major article directories that have a very good page rank. Also as more web sites published my articles I got a lot of one way links to my web site.

Basically my web sites were beginning to rank well because of all the links that I was getting. Before I was doing article marketing I was submitting to directories. This can be very costly, but is a very quick way to get links. You just need to be sure that you only submit to a few directories a month because if you submit to many directories at once Google may discount the links.

I also use to do reciprocal linking. This use to work before. Unfortunately with the changes in the Google algorithm this is no longer effective because Google is trying to combat spam.

The valuable lesson that I learnt from article marketing is that you only need to write a lot of articles and submit them to the major article directories to get good search engine rankings.
