Also, remember to Keep It Short and Concise . The title simply draws people in, it does not have to explain everything the article will cover.

Monitor which articles are clicked on more than others, by keeping an eye on your stats. This will help you see which articles have the most successful titles and which topics are most popular.

Article marketing mastery sounds more like an unattainable ideal than an actual destination doesn't it?

I don't expect to ever leave my trusty Dell one day, after writing an article and say "Damn. Nailed it. Time to 'master' something else."

It won't happen. And that's the beauty of all of this.

Progress not perfection.

While I was a copywriter at J Walter Thompson and Young & Rubicam in New York, we creatives would get literally drained by the amount of times we would have to present our ideas. Internally and to the all mighty clients who pay all the bills. Present to this person, present to that person. Get on a plane to Atlanta, present. Go to focus groups, present.

One of the tricks that we came up with during all of that tedium was a game where we would try and insert a phrase into meetings with the head clients. Simple phrase...were totally unique but also HAD NOTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH WHAT WE WERE TRYING TO SELL THEM.

The 'game' part of it was to see who could most creatively insert the phrase!

For instance, before we got into the conference room with the client, the creatives would agree on the phrase, and the more ridiculous the better. So if I was selling ideas to The Bronx Zoo (which I continually did), the phrase might have been something outrageous like having to say "albino criminals" or "why LAWN FURNITURE IS SEXY.' And who ever could do it WITHOUT calling attention to how RIDICULOUS it sounded...won!

Bear with me here, I'm turning the corner.

Well what I didn't know at the time, but do very well know now is that what we were actually accomplishing with this little creative 'phrase game' was that we were inserting unique KEYWORDS into the meeting. We were, in fact, 'cloaking our keywords.'

That's right...KEYWORDS.

Now, here's why you should be playing this not so little game...

By finding VERY SMART ways to insert unique phrases into your articles THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE TOPIC OF YOUR ARTICLES, you will be able to track them as they fly around the net.

You'll be able to do natural searches for your own CRAZY keywords and see which webmasters have picked up your content. Because of the uniqueness of your keywords, they will completely be your own. No one else should have ever used these words in combination...that's your tracking key.

Again, it is very important that you DON'T use a crazy keyword (which can be more than one word, don't forget) that will pull your readers off course. It can't be disruptive. So finding clever ways of putting them in there is important to the natural flow.

Try it with one article.

Watch as your work ends up in countries you've never even heard of before.

It's as wild as...let me think...as wild as albino criminals I suppose.

Are Your Inbound Links Up To Snuff?

Inbound Linking is critical to securing a top or at least a viewable ranking on the major search engines. You are looking to maximize the exposure of your web site to a targeted customer base. A proper approach to your linking strategy will ultimately expand your web site's traffic and your online business.

Getting incoming inbound links used to be simple. Just troll the Internet for willing webmasters and ask for a link, in exchange for you linking back to them. Easy. Right? Not so fast. This is what is known as a reciprocal link. There are several types of links you need to be aware of, but the two most important are "reciprocal" where they link to you and you to them and "one-way" links, where they are only linking to you. Both types of links can benefit your site. Search engines look at your site from the standpoint of how many incoming links it has. The more links, the greater your rank.

But it gets more complicated than that. You do not necessarily want to call up Aunt Gertrude and ask her to for an inbound link from her old-fashioned cooking site she crafted within Geocities to your site about model rocketry. That does not work like it might have in the old days. Why? Because search engines are smarter these days. They have morphed. Now they want the link to be RELEVANT. If your site is about model rocketry, you need links from other rocketry sites or sites RELATED to model rocketry.

A related topic to link relevancy is the discussion of where the link points to on your site. The more relevant the link is, the better the search engines like it. This is commonly referred to as "deep linking" because the site linking to yours is not just pointed at your top page, but is linked deep within your site's structure. This increases the links relevancy. It's also known as "context-relative" linking.

A linking strategy often overlooked by novice webmasters is the tactic of creating the appearance of an inbound link within the content of a relevant article on the site. As long as it does not appear out of place, and particularly if it is serving a useful purpose to the reader of the article, it helps the site's linking strategy, and therefore it's link popularity.

At the end of the day, when implementing a good linking strategy, think with your WHITE HAT on, not your black hat. This is a simple set of phrases that denote whether a webmaster is trying to trick the search engines, or staying with the practice of being a good Internet citizen and providing valuable content to the world at large. Think quality. Think relevance. And the traffic will beat a path to your door.

Article Marketing - What to Do When You Are Not Getting Enough Visitors to Your Website

One of the things I hear from many new article writers is that they are not getting very many visitors to their website(s) or blog(s). Sometimes they are so discouraged they are thinking about giving up.

When this is happening, there are several things that need to be checked in order to identify the problem. Here are some of the questions to ask:

Does the article have a compelling title that pulls the reader into the article?

Does the article read well and give good information?

Is the article structured in such a way as the reader can flow through the article to the resource box?

Does the resource box have a compelling offer that makes it a no-brainer for the reader to click through to your web site or blog?

These are all questions to ask to help you identify where the problem may be. If all of these factors are working well and together, you can then rule them out.

The only remaining problem is the most common problem of brand new article writers and marketers - not enough articles. This is a numbers game. The higher your article volume, the higher all your other numbers are going to be.

So the solution to not having enough articles is to write more articles. Don't be like those people that write just a few articles and then say (or whine) "article marketing doesn't work." Article marketing works great, it's those whiners that do not work.

Keep a working list of article ideas. When you think of a good idea, write it down. When it is time to write an article, go to your idea list and grab one. Work up to where you are writing an article a day on average.

Article Marketing - High Volume Begins With High Quality & Quantity Articles

Recognition on Top Article Marketing Sites starts at nearly 1000 articles. If you don't have at least a thousand written, you won't make the front page list, and the numbers are rising. But that isn't the only way to get noticed.

Quality counts too.

Effective Article Marketing presumes you know something about keyword optimization, grammar, and basic writing techniques. While there are those who make it to the top of the Article Marketing heap with bad grammar, no keyword optimization, and low grade techniques, their work doesn't capture the audience, or get republished. Fact is, if you want to be seen, provide QUALITY.

Quantity counts too.

One of the things that I love about article marketing is that I can just leave my computer on, with a Microsoft Word document open and if lightning strikes, I can stop for a minute at my computer and jot down a couple of notes for later. 5.) Pictures - If you are using pictures make sure to name them your keywords and then place them in the websites. Search engines will read these keywords as they are spidering through it and give you a better optimization.

6.) Bolding and underlining keywords - It is suggested to be beneficial to underline or bold your keywords. There is some controversy on this as some says it holds no relevance. I have experienced a higher page rank just from adding this a couple of times in my website. Not only does it stand out for your customers but also the search engines. Don't over do it, just a couple of times. The spiders are sensitive to this and if it is obvious they may spam your site. Just a couple of times is okay to get the desired effect.

7.) Properly used headers - Headers are important to search engine optimization. In SEO classes they teach the Headers stand out more then regular text with the spiders. If possible always have at least one Header at the top of the page with your keywords displayed. If you can include your main keyword first in the header it is said to bring higher points to your page.

8.) Show links to you other pages or sources - On the main page you should have links to other links, affiliate links, or subsequent pages. Hyper link them on you page either at the top or bottom. I don't suggest doing them within your body. I have seen where search engines don't like links going to irrelevant content with in your body. Try to keep the links at the top, left hand side, or bottom of your web page. Years ago they used to suggest creating squeeze pages, or gateway pages, which were websites keyword friendly. They didn't make sense they just had to have some content for the search engines benefit only. I don't suggest practicing this anymore, I would use real content when adding to your website.

9.) Browser detection - Be careful using this feature. Make sure that it does not break when the spiders or another agent may come through. The only way to get your website on the pages of the search engines is if the spiders can go through your website. Obviously if they can not get in, your website will not be spidered and displayed on the search engines.

10.) Get the right Domain Name: You url will hold some relevance in your search results. Spiders usually won't spider through a URL with special character in it. In addition having a shorter domain name is good for your customer base. When questioning the creation of your domain name consider putting your main keyword in the domain.

In conclusion, it is a known factor that search engine optimization is a highly recognized as a way to increase traffic to you website. Entrepreneur's, and Mentors have used these tactics for years. Testing and retesting what works as the search engines are forever changing how they spider our sites. The important thing to remember is that it does not stop with owning a website. In your personalized e-mail you should also mention that you have added a link to their site and give them instructions on where they can find it. When you link first followed by a link request, providing all the necessary information to post your link, you will significantly increase your chances of getting a reciprocal link. Also, give the other webmaster some time to get your link up. Check back in a week or two and if it still not up, simply send a gentle reminder e-mail. If your site is still not posted within a short period of time after that then simply remove the websites link from your website and keep moving. Remember, while obtaining links is your goal it might not be first on everyone's list.

As search engines become more expansive and continue to offer more options for searching specific sets of information (products, businesses, entertainment, etc) this also means that there are more ways for you to get your website included in search engine results. Yahoo! lists nine ways to submit your websites and content to be included in their index.

The easiest way to submit to Yahoo! is through their free submission page. While this is extremely easy and quick, there is little evidence that this actually provides a quick inclusion into Yahoo's index. In the event that your site is compatible with mobile browsers, there is also a special page to submit your mobile website to Yahoo!. Yahoo! also provides a resource to submit media content (audio, video, etc) although this requires a specially formatted RSS feed.

In addition to the free submission options, you can choose to essentially bribe Yahoo! into giving your website preferential treatment for a mere $50. This gets you a guaranteed inclusion within 48 hours and a more frequent revisit rate. For those that have a larger marketing budget and want more control over their site placement in results pages, they can opt for the sponsored inclusion. This is basically a parallel to Google's Adwords program in that each allow you to control your position depending on your top bid for specific keywords.

Finally, there is also the Yahoo! Directory. At one time, being included in the Yahoo! Directory was thought to give websites tremendous boost in all search engine rankings. Lately there has been much speculation that this has been heavily devalued in other search engines like Google and MSN. The request for inclusion requires an annual $300 application fee that does not guarantee your acceptance. And if your website is denied, there is no refund.
